House of Knives was first established in 1979 as a Canada-wide franchise. In 1987, Allan Eng opened a House of Knives in Victoria, BC. In 1992, together with his brother André, he purchased the franchise rights for British Columbia and rapidly expanded from one store to ten within a three month period. Together, they created a business model that distinguished itself from corporate stores by offering a broader selection of quality products, a higher level of customer service, and a sharper focus on product knowledge. This model established the western franchise as the most successful in Canada.
By 2010, all House of Knives stores east of British Columbia were closed. But in 2011, to fulfill his dream of once again expanding House of Knives across Canada, André Eng purchased full rights to the House of Knives brand across the country.
In 2015, with the opening of the third House of Knives store in Alberta in less than three years, Andre's dream is well on its way to becoming a reality.
Our vision is a simple one: to improve the quality of life of all those we encounter through education and innovation. Our goal is to match our customers with quality and functional tools, and to educate them on how to use and maintain their tools. To achieve this, we strive to create an inclusive atmosphere within each of our stores where customers who appreciate quality feel comfortable entering and inquiring about our products and services. If our customers' needs are not obvious, we listen openly, and without prejudice or bias, to help them determine what their needs are and how to fulfill them.
We aim to have our customers view us as not only as a destination where one can purchase fine quality tools and functional gifts, but as a resource for the service, knowledge, and education required to use and maintain their investments.
