Burnaby, BC, Canada, Oct 24th, 2017 – On October 13th, 2017, House of Knives President, Mr. Andre Eng, was honored as one of the very first members of the Spectrum Distinguished Alumni Awards. The event, hosted by the Spectrum Community School Alumni Association, paid tribute to their most professionally accomplished graduates.
“To me, this award belongs just as much to all my great teachers, friends, and family who helped shape me into who I am today,” says Mr. Eng. He was joined by three fellow honorees, including Bob Downie (Saanich Chief of Police), Wendy Tilby (Three-time Academy Award Nominee for Animation), and Shanice Marcelle (Professional Beach Volleyball Player for Team Canada).
As part of his return to Spectrum Community School, Mr. Eng held knife skills workshops, and provided a business lecture for marketing students. “It was so much fun to share and give back to our future youth in such a special place. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the influence of the friends and staff here.”
After graduating with the Class of ‘88, Mr. Eng completed the Chef’s Training Program at Vancouver Island University, formerly known as Malaspina College. Instead of pursuing a career in the culinary arts, he accepted an opportunity to work with brother, Allan Eng, to build House of Knives. This year marks Mr. Eng’s 32nd anniversary with the company.
House of Knives continues to be 100% Canadian, and is still family-owned with Mr. Eng’s wife and Marketing Director, Qua-Fung Eng. The company is now the largest independentlyh owned cutlery retail chain in the world.
